The menu for the week will be: Monday, hamburger gravy on egg noodles, vegetable, homemade rolls and strawberry shortcake for dessert. Thursday will bring the 'Luau Lunch.' The center will provide the ham and you can bring a dish for the buffet table. This is an 'appreciation lunch', free for all. Friday's buffet will feature smothered chicken on rice with pudding for dessert.
This week's highlights start with Monday by hosting Tim Juliano; his topic will be 'Keeping Active when Aging Gracefully' at 11 a.m. Tuesday will feature 'Senior night out' with Mike as your driver taking you to a nice dinner then out for some shopping at Wal-Mart and Dollar Tree. Local funeral director Ed Lloyd created this sensory garden with with residents of the Ruth M. Smith center. The garden includes colorful flowers and aromatic herbs for everyone to experience.
DEP in Sheffield Township
Crispin Moran, Engineer with DEP and Chris Orr, Biologist with DEP were present in Sheffield Township meeting with the three Supervisors, Tom Bulicz, John Labesky and Jim McMillen to work on some corrections to the Tionesta Creek to eleviate the flooding that is occuring on a regular basis. The group walked the entire Tionesta Creek from Bonavita/Schmader property on Horton Avenue down to the Center Street Bridge and to the 666/948 Bridge.
The individual who did this damage to the beautiful Memorial Park in downtown Sheffield has been caught and will be responsible for the over $2,000 damages done to the park and the fence. Sheffield Police Chief Dan Madigan has stated that restitution will be made the Township for these damages.
Planned trips include Sept. 9 to the Seneca Allegany Casino.

If there are any community residents who would like to donate food to feed the firemen, fire police, and various judges on Aug. 23, Parade Day, the members of the Sheffield VFD would really appreciate it. The department asks for food donations each year and always end up with a great selection of food. Food can be dropped off at the firehall on Aug. 23 before 11 a.m.
Meet the Teachers
On Tuesday, Sept. 2nd Allegheny Valley Elementary School will be holding a "Meet Your Teacher" from 3-4 PM for all grades. This will give the students the opportunity to meet their teacher for the coming school year, which begins on Wednesday, September 3rd.

The Ruth M. Smith Center found mold in the Daycare Center on July 31, and elected to close until the target date of Sept. 2 to have the facility professionally cleaned, air scrubbed, and inspected to meet state approval. Volunteers will be cleaning everything else in the Daycare as a precautionary measure. Registrations are currently being accepted in the Office in the Mansion.
