UMC volunteers upgrade ramps at the Ruth Smith Center in Sheffield

August 7, 2014
Times Observer

Volunteers from several United Methodist churches (UMC) in the Kane District got together recently to upgrade and repair two handicap accessibility ramps at the Ruth Smith Center in Sheffield. Richard and Mary Schall from Warren First United Methodist Church provided the lumber and some of the deck screws to install new balusters and handrails. Ron and Marti Casteel, also from Warren First UMC, provided paint and hardware. Thom Russell, along with some members of the "Hands of the Carpenter" group from Russell UMC, brought their tool trailer. Several other volunteers helped with removing the old wood and painting and installing the new components.
