Free self-defense course

July 22, 2014
Times Observer

A free coed short stick self-defense course will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 26, by Kimio Nelson, head instructor of Fighting Tigers Martial Arts at the karate school in Starbrick. The class for ages 12 and older is part of the school's Give Back to Warren Program. The course will cover legal issues, how to prevent dangerous situations, and basic defensive moves and counters against strikes and grabs using a Japanese short stick. This is a great class for college bound students, runners/walkers, law enforcement, or people who may deal with violent people as part of their job. This class is also a great refresher for those who have taken this course before. Participants will receive a free stick that they can make into a harmless looking key holder. Pre-registration is required. Families are welcome. Call Nelson at 723-2358 for info and to register. Pictured are two Fighting Tigers students demonstrating a self-defense move.
