Investigators with the Allegheny National Forest are looking into a vandalism incident that occurred sometime last week.
According to ANF Executive Assistant Kathy Mohney and Recreation Team Leader Julie Moyer, a bench along Rimrock Trail near Kinzua Beach was damaged.
The vandalism was reported on Thursday, July 3, by Kinzua Beach concessionaire Scott Ford.
The damage is "extensive," according to Moyer, and she plans to have a crew remove the bench. "It looks as if someone threw rocks at it and all the wooden parts will need replaced."
"We will replace the bench in a week or so and look to work with the great folks at the ANF to fix the broken one and get it back out and in use," Joe Colosimo of Pennsylvania Kinzua Pathways, the organization that spearheaded the construction of the trail and the addition of improvements including the bench, said. "We have received a lot of positive comments about how nice they are to have up on the trail."
The benches were designed by drafting students at Warren County Career Center and built by carpentry students.
An incident report has been filed with U.S. Forest Service law enforcement officers, Mohney said.
