BROCKWAY - The Warren Boys Majors Nationals kept their season alive with a 12-9 extra-inning win over Brockway on Friday on the road.
Warren led 9-8 in the bottom of the sixth before Brockway tied the game when a runner came around to score on a wild pitch, sending the game to extras.
A scoreless seventh led to the Nationals taking the lead in the eighth courtesy of an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Ethan Wilson that scored Alex Borger. With the bases loaded, Ben Berdine drew a walk to bring in Dakota Chase and Gavin Lavan scored on a wild pitch, making it 12-9 in favor of Warren.
Chase, who took over pitching duties in the fifth, shut the door with two strikeouts and a groundout to wrap up the win in the bottom of the eighth. Lavan started the game on the hill before giving way to Tony Batiste and later Chase. Batiste threw a pair of scoreless innings in the third and fourth.
The Nationals started the game with five runs in the top of the first on the strength of key hits from James Swanson, Bupp, Lavan, and Wilson.
Wilson finished the game with two hits and three RBI while Bupp and Swanson each added a pair of hits. Dylan Eklund came off the bench to drive in a crucial run for the Nationals in the fourth, and Berdine played solid defensively at his shortstop position.
The Nationals (1-1) will look to keep the momentum rolling on Sunday in the double-elimination tourney when they host DuBois at Betts-Jackson. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
