The girls from the Youngsville High School Class of 1968 will be gathering for a picnic and swim on Monday, June 30, at 11 AM at Sandee Kibbey Geer's home in Clarendon. Flag Day Ceremony
A Flag Day ceremony was held on June 14 at the Masonic Lodge, Railroad Street, Youngsville. From left are Master of Ceremonies Paul E. Yaegle, Past Master; Peter M. Brokenstraw Valley Pool held its World’s Largest Swimming Lesson last week. On June 20 the BVSP participated in the World's Largest Swimming Lesson. This is the third year that they have been a part of this worldwide event. This year BVSP had 53 participants in the lesson.
Today, is the annual Luau. It is from 6:30 - 9:30 and it is $5 a person. There will be a 50-50, and hot dogs. Session II swimming lesson sign- ups will be June 30-July 3 from 5 - 6 Monday thru Thursday and noon to one Saturday and Sunday.
The pool is closed July 4 for the holiday. Session II begins July 7-18. The lesson times are 9:30 - 10:15 and 10:30 to 11:15. Sign-ups for the Guard Start program will be held June 30-July 3 as well. The program is a Junior lifeguard class that teaches you how to become a lifeguard.
Christmas in July
Brokenstraw Valley Swimming Pool, will be hosting Christmas in July on July 17. Call 563-9570 for information. All are welcome to enjoy a swim and fun.
Farmer Market vouchers will be available at the Youngsville Borough Building meeting room on June 30 from 9 a.m. - noon. To be eligible, you must be a Warren County resident, gross income of $21,590 or less for a single and 29,101 for a couple. An ID with a birth date is required.
Youngster raises funds
On May 10 JDRF held a Walk for a Cure event at Betts Park in Warren PA to help not only raise money for a cure for Type 1 Diabetes, but to also raise awareness about Type 1 Diabetes. This year's theme was "Wild for a Cure".
Olivia Darling is handing her walk donations to Mrs. Diane Sickles; Northwestern PA JDRF Branch Director at this year's Walk for a Cure. Olivia is 9 years old and is a student at Youngsville Elementary Middle School. She was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of two. This was her 6th year participating in JDRF's Walk for a Cure. This year Olivia celebrated her 9th birthday with friends and instead of birthday presents she asked her friends to make a donation to JDRF. All of her friends stepped up and made generous donations and she was able to raise $305.
What are the symptoms of type 1 diabetes (T1D)?
The symptoms may occur suddenly, and include one or more of the following: Extreme thirst; Frequent urination; Drowsiness, lethargy; Sugar in urine; Sudden vision changes; Increased appetite; Sudden weight loss; Fruity, sweet, or wine-like odor on breath; Heavy, labored breathing; Stupor, and/or unconsciousness
If you think you or your child has diabetes, call a doctor immediately, and drink fluids without sugar, if able to swallow, to prevent dehydration.

On Thursday, July 10, from 5 to 7 p.m., a Chicken barbecue will be held and local musicians will perform at the Wilder Museum. Barbecue tickets are available at $10 presale and $12 at the door. Dinners include chicken barbecue, macaroni salad, baked beans and a roll.

Yongsville Borough Office will be closed on July 4 for the holiday. The office will reopen on Monday, July 7.
YABA Sale Day
There will be community-wide garage sales on Thursday, July 17, through Saturday, July 19, in downtown Youngsville and the surrounding area.
Local businesses, churches, organizations, and individuals are invited to hold garage sales, yard sales, bake sales or rummage sales, any sale of your choice, either at your place or downtown on the sidewalk. Businesses are asked to have specials this weekend.
The YABA Association, working with R.O. Y. (Revitalization Of Youngsville Committee, Borough of Youngsville) goal is to promote local businesses, and bring people to the Youngsville community to see what Youngsville has to offer. YABA stands for Youngsville Area Business Association.
The A'Maize'ing Corn Festival 2014, August 15-17 is seeking volunteers of all ages to help with this community festival. This could be an excellent opportunity for school students to use for service hours. There are various fun and interesting events. Please call 563-9235 for more information.
