June 25, 2014
Times Observer

At their recent annual volunteer recognition dinner, the Chief Cornplanter Council, Boy Scouts of America, honored two local individuals with distinctive awards. Dr. Ruth Barnes-Shaw, at left, was presented with the District Award of Merit, a National Award, which is the highest honor a Scouting District can bestow on a volunteer. Ruth is the Cubmaster of Pack 14 in Russell and for three years has been Camp Director for the Cub Scout Summer Adventure Camp held by the Chief Cornplanter Council for its Cub Scouts. Gregg Trisket, at right, received the Silver Beaver Award, a National Award, which is the highest honor a local council can bestow on a volunteer. Gregg is the former Scoutmaster of Troop 8 in Warren, a member of the Council's Executive Board, and serves as Camp Director for Boy Scout Summer Camp at Camp Olmsted.
