The following events are planned at Chapman State Park this weekend:
"Why Do Beavers Build Lodges?" will be the topic of the naturalist from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 20. Meet at the park amphitheater to find out the answer to this question. Enjoy a short hike to view a beaver lodge and end the evening making your own lodge.
Also Friday, the movie, "The Biggest Dam Movie You Ever Saw - Beavers" will be shown from 9 to 10 p.m. Take a swim with beavers and experience the rich aquatic habitat of one of nature's greatest engineers. Meet at the amphitheater. (In case of rain, Pavilion 4.)
On Saturday, "Drop in on Owls" from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Whooo goes there? Owls of course! Find out what owls live at Chapman, dissect an owl pellet, and learn how owls find their way in the dark. Activities will happen at the Beach Concession Stand.
Also Saturday, see Saw Whet Owl Banding from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Saw Whet Owls have been heard in the area. A banding station will be in place this evening. Experience begins at 8:30 pm at the park amphitheater. John Fedak will be conducting this program.
The n on-Denominational Worship Service at Park Amphitheater at 10 a.m. Sunday.
The concession stand, with boat rentals, snacks, ice, firewood and more, is open from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and noon to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (closed Tuesdays). Use your camping receipt to receive a 10-percent discount on boat and bike rental.
