The 19th Annual Sugar Grove Cruise In will be held Friday, May 23. The entry fee is $5 per vehicle which will go to benefit the Sugar Grove Food Pantry. The host of this year's event is the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church.
The first 100 cars or motorcycles entered will receive a dash plaque sponsored this year by the Bucket Cafe. Cars can enter at the Sugar Grove Fire Hall. The Sugar Grove Fire Department will also be holding a Chicken BBQ and other vendors will be on hand. The fun starts at 4 p.m. and continues until 8 p.m. rain or shine. National Honor Society

SGES Open House
Thank you to all the former staff who joined us for the final SGES open house on Friday, May 16. Many retired teachers and staff came to celebrate 50 years at SGES. Sugar Grove Street Dance
Thank you to the Bubble Gum DJ and all those who came out on a cold night to take part in the SGES and RES Street Dance at Sugar Grove Elementary School.
Memorial Day Event
On Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, the Sugar Grove community is invited to come together to honor our servicemen and women. AMVETS Post 50 and American Legion Post 758 will hold this joint service in the Sugar Grove Town Park beginning at 11 a.m. Guest speaker will be Past National Commander Gary Fry.
Immediately following the Memorial Day Service will be the Annual AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary "Ducks for Bucks" race being held on the Main Street AMVETS Memorial bridge.
Reminder there will be no classes on Monday, May 26 for students in the Warren County School District in observance of Memorial Day. The last day of school will be Friday, June 8.
Ron Brewer will be in concert at the Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church on Jackson Run Road in Chandlers Valley on May 28. Concert will begin at 7 p.m. All are welcome to come and enjoy his gospel singing. On Sunday, June 15 at 6 p.m. the Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church will also be hosting a concert by Dan Shall.
SGES Open House
Sugar Grove Elementary School held an open house on Friday, May 16. All former and current students, teachers and support staff were invited to attend. The halls were filled with former staff and students telling stories and "catching up" with one another. The library had historical display with all the yearbooks on display of the many classes from 1964-today.
Sugar Grove Elementary School marks its 50th and final year in our community. At 7 p.m. there was a street dance in the front of the school.
Eisenhower High School held its Spring Induction Ceremony of the National Honor and Junior Honor Society on Wednesday, May 14 at 6 p.m. The keynote address was given by Jim Penley from EMHS.
Inducted into the National Honor Society were Kara Coffaro, Kate Daugharthy, Josh Eernisse, Alexandra Hagberg, Alisen Hazeltine, Christian Hefright, Mitchyl Hedman, Kayla Kuppertz, Christine Kuzminski, Abigail Lundmark, Megan Lupole, Carley Martone, Mallory Trumbull, Grant Venman, Kristen Wagner, Jacob Hamilton, Ben Harvey, and Casey Vincent. Haley Spicer was inducted into the Junior Honor Society.
SGES and RES
The Band, Orchestra and 6th grade Chorus will join with the students of RES and SGES to provide a combined concert on Thursday, May 29 at Eisenhower High School at 6 p.m.
The Community Lunches in the area continue to be well attended. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend any or all of the area community lunches. Each month lunch is held on the first Friday of the month at the Mission Covenant Church at the corner of Matthews Run and Jackson Run roads. On the second Thursday of each month at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church located at the corner of Race and Jamestown streets in the center of town. On the third Wednesday of the month at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church located in Chandlers Valley.
Note that the United Methodist Church and the Mission Covenant Church will be taking a summer break from community lunches during June, July and August.
The Sugar Grove Library Book Club's June book is "Winter's Bone" by Daniel Woodrell. We will meet June 30. Stop at the library and pick up a copy today then join in the Sugar Grove Book Club.
The students of the Imaginative Preschool in Sugar Grove will hold their graduation celebration on Thursday, May 29 at 7 p.m. in the Sugar Grove Free Methodist gym. Parent and friends are invited to come out and enjoy a review of the school year and help us celebrate our students who will move on to kindergarten and those who will move up to the 5-year-old class next year.
The Sugar Grove Library and the Sugar Grove Community are working to plan the second Annual Sugar Grove Library Hunger games happening Saturday, June 7.
Individuals and teams needed to register on or before May 16.
If you missed the Hunger Games event last year, it is a community street fair that involves good clean fun competitions and will provide nonperishable food items to fill the local food banks. This event will not only raise funds for the local library, it will assist in replenishing the area food banks.

Vendor forms are now available at the Sugar Grove Library. There are spots for craft and food vendors to be at the event. There will be no alcohol, tobacco or gun sales. If you would like to volunteer to be on the set-up crew, take-down crew or scorekeeper you can also contact the library. We are in need of numerous volunteers to make this day a success.
Last year there were events such as rock climbing, bungee running, archery, obstacle courses, races geocaching, laser tag, hoop shoots, baseball throws, and more. It all happens in the streets of Sugar Grove. There are also events for the younger crowd as well.
Sign up now for the Eisenhower Barnyard Classic Basketball 3 on 3 tournament. The event this year will be happening Saturday, June 28 on 10 permanent outdoor courts.

The Chandlers Valley Community Center is looking for vendors for the upcoming fall Sportsmen's Challenge. The challenge will take place on Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event will include the people pull, judged pie baking contest, pie auction, judged photo contest, children's games and events, a Chinese auction, lawn mower obstacle course, corn hole tournament, sportsmen's challenge, pre-1965 farm tractor cruise-in, craft vendors, food vendors, flea market, and more.
