The Youngsville Eagles picked up a win in dramatic fashion in a non-region game against Fairview on Friday.
Tied at five heading into the eighth inning, Jake Marino led off with a single and advanced to second on a James Frazier bunt. Marino was off and running on a 1-1 count and Bryce Sherrard came through with a single up the middle to give Youngsville the extra-innings win, 6-5.
"The nice thing was it was a solid defensive game. Neither team made any errors," said Eagles' coach Wayne Marino, whose team improves to 5-9 with the win. "Nate Lehman made his first varsity start and did very well at second base. There were a lot of groundouts, a couple flyouts, just routine plays. I thought it was our best team effort all year."
Aaron Hoover started on the mound and went six innings before leaving with the score tied at four. Frazier came on in relief to pick up the win.
Offensively, Marino was a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored to lead the Eagles. Sherrard was 2-for-4 with two RBI, Tanner Humphrey was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, and Levi Hendrickson was 2-for-4.
Youngsville will wrap up its season at Union City on Saturday. First pitch in the non-region contest is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
