Janeane Shanahan, mother of Damien Michael Sharp, who has been missing since May 25, 2002, was presented the Keeper of the Flame Award by the Community United Effort (CUE) of Wilmington, N.C., during a recent Breaking the Silence Roundtable Conference.
CUE helps families, investigators and volunteers in their efforts to find missing persons, and provides trained professional search and recovery units nationwide.
They continue searching for years after disappearances, never giving up on the missing or their families.
Monica Caison, director of CUE, presented the award on behalf of the families that have been helped by the organization's State Outreach Coordinators (SORC) program.
Shanahan is the Pennsylvania coordinator, as well as one of the New York state coordinators, and is responsible for on-going training, webinars with other state coordinators, a 12-day road rally to get the word out about missing persons, making phone calls with families of missing persons and updating social media sites with information.
Sharp is considered to be a Missing/Homicide by the City of Warren Police Department.
