Lois B. Niederer, 89, of North Warren, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014, at home surrounded by her family.
Lois was born January 17, 1925, in Warren, PA, the daughter of the late Donald G. and Mary Mildred Armstrong Bogart. A lifelong Warren resident, Lois was a 1943 graduate of Warren High School. She was employed for many years at the Warren State Hospital as a receptionist and switchboard operator, from which she retired. She was previously employed for several years at Bell Telephone.
Lois was a longtime active member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Warren. She was also active in the Catholic Daughters of America and participated in other church activities. Among the many things Lois enjoyed were monthly luncheons with her High School classmates, many friends, family, and especially her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She also enjoyed reading and traveling.
She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Crawford, and husband, Brad, of Macon, GA, Shirley Grundberg, and husband, George, of Tucson, AZ and Barbara Steber, and husband, Bud, of Warren, PA; two sisters, Joan Jones, and husband, Richard, of Russell, PA and Jean Voegele, of Bayonet Point, FL.
Lois has seven grandchildren, Matthew Crawford, Lindsay Crawford Banasz and her husband Keith, Kristopher Grundberg, Kelly Grundberg Halterman and her husband Michael, Buddy Steber and his wife Erica, Bennett Steber, and Samara Steber, one great granddaughter, Keilin Banasz, one great grandson, Charlie Steber; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death on March 8, 1990, by her husband, George A. Niederer, whom she married on February 1, 1946; and a sister, Carol Wenzel,
Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penna. Ave. E., Warren, on Thursday, May 1, from 5 to 8 p.m., where a Vigil Service will be held at 4:45 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 2, at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 600 Penn. Ave., W., Warren, with Rev. Richard J. Toohey, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Warren.
