Eisenhower High School junior Apprille Seamens was one of only a couple of girls at the school to give the pole vault a try last year when the program took on the event after several years off. "She was one of two who had no idea what to do, but had the nerve to give it a try," said Ike girls track coach Mike Logue. Now she's winning the event at meets, including against Johnsonburg and Cameron County in a tri-meet in which she set the Eisenhower school record. Her district-qualifying vault of 8 feet, 6 inches last Thursday beat the former school record of 7-8, set by Ashley Sopkin in 2003. Seamens is the Times Observer Female Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Little Caesars.
