Youngsville defeated Sheffield, 16-6, in a crossover district game on Tuesday.
"It was a total team effort today," said Youngsville coach Ron Jameson. "We were hitting the ball really well that first inning, and they say that hitting is contagious. Well, it was."
The Youngsville girls scored eight runs in the opening inning, and it was all but over from there. They hit another five home in the second, then let the defense hold the lead.

The tag that stopped the game
Sheffield’s Abby Cromwell tags Youngsville’s Karissa Cratty with her glove extended with the ball in her throwing hand. After a stoppage in play, it was ruled that the glove pushed into the ball during the tag, and the out stood. Youngsville pulled out the win, 16-6.
"After the fourth, I had to talk to them," said Jameson. "We came out in the fifth and starting hitting the ball again."
The Wolverines played well, and won the last three innings of the game 6-3 behind freshman Claire Pierson. Sheffield junior Maddie Fiscus had a home run in the third, and second baseman Abby Cromwell made several outs, including a double play with a pop out and tag.
Sheffield will host Eisenhower on Friday. Youngsville will travel to Franklin Thursday.
"We'll be pitching inside the rest of the week," said Jameson. "We're trying to keep arms from getting overextended, and we know Franklin is a great hitting team. Fatigue won't be an issue for us."
Despite the inclement weather, the Lady Eagles, and teams around the county alike, have had to make up games and adapt their schedule.
"We're making up every game, and we're going to be fine," said Jameson. "It's a long season, but you prepare for it, and we're ready."
The Lady Eagles are now 2-3 overall, while the Lady Wolverines are 2-1.
Maddie Fehlman was 3-for-3 for Youngsville in a 17-4 junior varsity win. Emily Grove was 2-for-2 in the loss.
