Silver Winds to perform

April 23, 2014
Times Observer

Silver Winds Flute Choir will presents "From Sea to Shining Sea: Music from the Old World to the New" on Sunday, April 27, at 3 p.m. This free concert will held at First United Methodist Church, 200 Market St., Warren. Selections from French, English and Irish composers to the new and uniquely American Melvin Lauf Jr. composition, "Welcome!," present a variety of styles and eras of music. Familiar American pieces on this program will include "When the Saints Go Marching In," "Gimme Dat Ole Time Religion" and "America the Beautiful." "The American Duet" by Franz Doppler arranged by Griesman combines American musical motifs from "The Boatman's Dance," "Star Spangled Banner," "Yankee Doodle" and "Hail Columbia" into a flute duet with choir accompaniment.
