ERIE - Warren's girls softball team fell to 1-1 on the early season with a 4-1 Region 7 loss to McDowell on Thursday.
"We had 15 strikeouts today - we didn't do our job at the plate... the fact they only had one more hit than we did," said Warren coach Mark Bupp.
McDowell took advantage of a walk and a triple that got by the rightfielder in the first inning. Then a bloop single knocked in a second run for a 2-0 McDowell lead.
Warren cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the fifth when Kaitlin Ishman doubled and Kennedy Walter singled her in, but Warren left runners on first and second in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
McDowell broke the game open when Warren committed its only error and a walk put runners on first and second in the bottom of the fifth. A sac bunt moved the runners up and, with the infield in, a groundball snuck through for a two-run single.
"They were just able to put them together," Bupp said of McDowell's five hits. "We just have to do a better job at the plate. We weren't ourselves today - that's the bottom line. Credit to (Megan Kraus); she threw a great game."

The Lady Eagles are 0-3 to start the year after a 3-1 Region 5 loss to Rocky Grove Thursday at Youngsville High School.
Rocky Grove scored all three of its runs in the top of the third inning, and Youngsville could only answer with one in the bottom of the sixth when Katie Gustafson drove in Jessie Jameson. Jameson had reached base on a bunt single to start the inning.
"We're definitely moving in the right direction," said Youngsville coach Ron Jameson. "A couple injuries this week hurt us, but I thought we played really well. We just need to start hitting the ball better."
Offensively, Jameson, Gustafson, Kennedy Cratty, all singled and Haley Gray tripled for Youngsville.
The Lady Eagles are back in action tomorrow at Eisenhower.

FRANKLIN 20, IKE 7
The Lady Knights put too many runners on, and Franklin hit the ball with the wind to knock them in. Franklin had nine extra-base hits in a Region 5 win over Eisenhower.
"We gave up some unearned runs," said Ike coach R.J. Williams, whose Knights are 0-2 and have a crucial region contest against Youngsville Friday at Eisenhower.
The Knights committed six errors, including one with two outs in a big six-run third inning that gave Franklin the lead for good.
Kristen Wagner and Haylie Birt had two hits each for the Knights, which scored seven runs on eight hits in the loss.
