Members of the Kinzua Sluggers 11U travel baseball team normally spend their Saturday afternoons playing baseball, but this past Saturday they volunteered their time picking up garbage and debris at Clifford R. Betts Park. They collected several bags of garbage from inside the park and also from the entrance to the park. Several tree limbs and general debris, from the long hard winter, were also removed. The Sheffield at Johnsonburg track meet postponed on Monday will be made up at 4 p.m. Monday, April 14.
The Sheffield at DuBois Central Catholic softball doubleheader postponed on Monday will be made up beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3.
Warren Area High School graduate Hank Morrison was 2-for-4 with a home run, five RBI, two runs and two walks on Saturday as the first baseman in Division II Mercyhurst University's (18-8) doubleheader sweep of visiting Pitt-Johnstown (11-18).
Warren Area High School graduate Emily Lobdell was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Western Division Pitcher of the Week on Monday after strong performances in doubleheaders against Clarion and IUP.
The senior pitcher for Division II Slippery Rock University was 2-0 with two complete games in three appearances. In 17 innings, she allowed 13 hits, a .206 batting average and a 2.47 ERA.
For the year, Lobdell is 5-3 with a 2.96 ERA, five complete games and 43 strikeouts for The Rock (8-11).
Former Warren Area High School standout Summer Walter has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Field Athlete of the Week.
Walter, a freshman at Division I James Madison University and Bayside (Va.) High School graduate, was the runner-up at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational last weekend in her first collegiate heptathlon. Her point total (4,517) ranks first in the CAA, fifth among ECAC teams and 20th in the NCAA East Region. It is also the fourth-highest point total in JMU history. Walter was the runner-up in three events and the third-place finisher in two events at Liberty. Additionally, her time of 14.88 in the 100-meter hurdles ranks 10th-all-time at JMU.
Youngsville High School graduate Cory Craig took the loss on the mound despite allowing just one unearned run on three hits and one walk in 6.1 innings as Cal U fell to IUP on Tuesday. The Vulcans are now 17-13 overall.
Warren Area High School graduate Matt Jaskolka worked 6.1 innings, scattering five hits and two earned runs as the starting pitcher for Bloomsburg University in a 4-2 win over Millersville on Sunday. Jaskolka left the game with a 2-2 tie, and the Huskies pulled ahead in the top of the ninth to improve to 16-11 overall and 9-5 in the PSAC East.
Warren Area High School graduate Nathan Zigler placed ninth in the decathlon with a score of 5,711 points for Slippery Rock at the Coastal Carolina University's Shamrock Invitational on March 22.

Jr. Legion tryouts
Tryouts for the Warren Post 135 junior legion (age 13-15) baseball team will be held Thursday, April 10 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, April 12 at 5 p.m. at Werner Park in Russell. For information, contact Don Johnson 688-9824.
The annual meeting for the Friday Night Co-Ed League will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at the upstairs meeting room at the Cornerstone Lounge. Registrations will be on a first-come, first-serve basis at the meeting. The fee is $450 per team and representatives must have the full fee at the meeting to ensure a spot in the league. One representative from each team hoping to participate must be present at the meeting. Rule changes will be discussed.
