Ham party Saturday
Lander Volunteer Fire Department will hold its "Ham Party" Saturday, April 12, at the fire hall. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and drawings will start at 7 p.m. Fun activities are planned for the children, and free refreshments will be available.
North Warren Presbyterian Church will host a presentation of the movie "Frozen" during its free Family Movie Night on Saturday, April 12, at 6:30 p.m. Community members of all ages are invited. Even if you have seen the movie, it is worth watching again. There will be free refreshments. This will be the last Family Movie Night at the church until fall. Alzheimer's Walk planned
The initial committee meeting for the Warren Walk to End Alzheimer's Disease was held in March at the Harbor Church on Conewango Ave. Co-chair Laurie Sheriff distributed sponsor packets and announced the walk will be held at Betts Park on Saturday, Sept. 27, with the registration at 8 a.m. and the walk beginning at 9 a.m. Plans are being made for activities to be held in conjunction with the walk that include: refreshments, music, incentives, special awards and recognitions, and door prizes. Teams are encouraged to sign up online at (act.alz.org/warrenpa2014) or to obtain a team registration packet from a committee member, and begin fundraising early. Anyone interested in the effort is invited to join the committee at the next planning meeting to be held at noon Thursday, April 24, at the Harbor Church, 135 Conewango Ave., Warren. SBU open houses
Eisenhower High School sophomores and juniors and their parents are invited to an open house at the St. Bonaventure Center located at 1 Timberlane, Russell (across from the sporting goods store on Rt. 62), on Thursday, April 10. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the program on dual enrollment beginning at 7 p.m. Warren Area High School students will have a program Wednesday (the day was not listed in briefs Tuesday) at the same times.
Win at bridge
Winners in Monday evening duplicate bridge game at the YMCA were Dot Boekeloo and Sally Steele, first with 35; Lana Creal and Doug Megill, second with 32; and Hal and Mary Conarro, third with 26.
The Slovenian Polka Boosters will dance from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at the Big Trout Inn in Weedville. Frank Moravcik of Cleveland, Ohio, will provide music for all types of dancing. The public is invited. For information, call Paul Leofsky at 563-7516.
To dance Saturday
The Circle Eight Square Dance Club will dance from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in the auditorium at Warren State Hospital in North Warren. Norman Shaffor will be the caller.
Garland Presbyterian Church will have its annual chicken barbecue from noon until gone Saturday, April 12, at the church. Cost will be $9 for a meal of half a chicken, macaroni salad, baked beans, roll and a cookie, or $5 for a half chicken.
Pancake Day will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, the first day of trout season, at Lottsville United Methodist Church. The menu will include pancakes with fresh maple syrup, sausage, scrambled eggs, juice and coffee, and homemade fruit pie. Cost will be a donation.
