The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), local chapter 4297, will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the Peppermill for lunch and a business meeting. SBU open house
Warren Area High School sophomores and juniors and their parents are invited to an open house at the St. Bonaventure Center located at 1 Timberlane, Russell (across from the sporting goods store on Rt. 62). Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the program on dual enrollment beginning at 7 p.m.

Scandia April 10
The Elk Township Historical Society invites the public to an exciting educational program at the Scandia Community Center in cooperation with the Martz Observatory on Thursday, April 10, at 7 p.m. The program, entitled "The Universe We Live In," will be presented by Martz astronomers and will include information about their remarkable Robin Hill telescopes, some of the largest privately owned instruments in the United States. A field trip to the nearby observatory will be scheduled at a later date. This is an opportunity for local residents to become familiar with this asset in the community. Bring all the family to experience this event. Light refreshments will be served.
Bike ride Monday
On Monday, April 14, the Northern Allegheny Mountain Bike Club will host a beginner level mountain bike ride. This will be a dirt road ride, and the distance will be determined by the group's ability. The public is invited to hear a program by Pennsylvania Humanities Council presentation of Commonwealth Speaker Steve Anderson on "Homegrown Heroes: Pennsylvania Communities in the Civil War" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, in the Main Courtroom of the Warren County Courthouse.
The "Glory Way Quartet" will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at Tionesta Alliance Church, 1734 Colonel Drake Highway (Rt. 36 S.), Tionesta. This quartet from Mansfield, Ohio, was formed in 2001 and sings southern gospel music. They have been spreading God's word through song for more than 13 years, presenting four-part harmony. Members are Lynn Royce Taylor, tenor; Justin Crank, lead; Jim Copenhaver, baritone; and Justin Sayger, bass. There will be no charge for the concert, but an offering will be collected.
Crossing community breakfasts
The Crossing, Hickory St. at Pennsylvania Ave. W., Warren, is offering a free community breakfast on the last Saturday of every month from 9 to 11 a.m. The breakfast consists of pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee. Coordinators were made aware that meals are offered for those in need during the week, but not on the weekends. They are currently looking for local groups or organizations (four to six individuals) to host one of the breakfasts. The Crossing will provide the food and beverages; the volunteers will be responsible for preparing the pancakes, serving, and cleanup (approximately from 8 a.m. to noon). Discuss Internet addiction
"Internet Addiction: A Growing Epidemic" by Dr. Kimberly Young will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the Jefferson Room of the Warren Public Library. The Center for Internet Addiction was founded by Young in 1995. It provides treatment for Internet addiction using CBT-IA, Young's specialized cognitive-behavioral therapy for Internet addiction and is the first evidenced-based Digital Detox rehabilitation program in the country. Come hear Dr. Young speak about the issue of Internet addiction and treatment options. This is a free program and open to the public. Reservations are required (call 723-4650) as Dr. Young would appreciate an idea of the size of the audience.
Luck shoot Sunday
A "Luck Shoot" will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at Sugar Grove American Legion. Prizes will include hams, turkeys and steaks, and the auxiliary will have pies. The day also will feature free chili and a gun raffle. Anyone age 12 and older is eligible to shoot.
