A Warren man died Wednesday after a snowboarding accident at the Holiday Valley ski resort in Ellicottville, N.Y.
"We are extremely sorry to report on Wednesday, March 5 at approximately 1:30 p.m., a 21-year old male from Pennsylvania was involved in an incident at Holiday Valley Resort. The individual apparently lost control while snowboarding, went off the trail and collided with a tree," said Jane Eshbaugh, marketing director of Holiday Valley.
"He was transported to Olean General Hospital. It is our understanding he passed away at the hospital and we have no other details," she added.
The man was identified by the Cattauragus County, N.Y., coroner as Connor English of Warren.
Eshbaugh said, "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. We are saddened by the tragic occurence and loss of life.
According to a press release from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, several students from the school were at Holiday Valley as part of a ski class, but English was not a part of that group.
"My thoughts and prayers are with Connor's family and friends as well as others who have been touched by this tragic loss," University spokeswoman Pat Frantz Cercone said.
"Our staff members in the Offices of Counseling and Health Services, along with members of the Student Affairs and Resident Advisors, will continue to be available to provide support to our students and other members of our campus community...in the days to come."
