Douglas Eugene Ward, 83, of North Warren, passed away Monday, February 24, 2014, at Heritage Green Assisted Living in Lynchburg, Virginia. Born December 29, 1930 in Warren, he was the son of the late Douglas and Florence Thurston Ward.
Doug graduated from the Thaddeus Stevens Trade School in Lancaster, Pa. He worked at the Warren State Hospital as an electrician and fire marshal his entire career. He was a member of the North Warren Fire Department for over 60 years. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, the outdoors, and traveling throughout the country.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann A. Ward; three children, Douglas M. Ward (Carlene Castagnino Ward) of Titusville, Florida, Alinda Ambrose (Larry Ambrose) of North Warren, and David C. Ward, of Lynchburg Virginia; six grandchildren; Brandy Ambrose, Jolie Ambrose, Nicole Ambrose Gern, Stephanie Ward Welch, Eric Ward, and Tanner Ward; nine great grandchildren and a sister Jeanette Rae of Clarendon, Pennsylvania.
Doug will be remembered by family and friends as a jack of all trades who could build or fix anything. He was a loving father and grandfather who instilled a strong work ethic in all of us. Throughout his career in the fire service he was dedicated to serving the community, the residents of the State Hospital, and his fellow fire fighters.
A small informal celebration of life gathering will be held in Warren at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Warren Volunteer Fire Department.
