Ruth A. Gerus, 26 Jefferson Street, Tidioute, died at the Titusville Area Hospital Monday, February 17, 2014, after a brief illness. She was born in McKeesport, PA, October 29, 1924, a daughter of the late Fred and Katarina Piezko Ambroziak and had lived in Tidioute since 1936. She was a graduate of Tidioute High, class of 1942, and was a member of the Tidioute First United Methodist Church and the Odds & Ends Club. She was a life long accordion player, having played with a band during WW II, and continued playing her whole life, most recently at the Music in the Pines and at the Tidioute Senior Center. She loved her flowers, birds and her social life with her friends and family.
In addition to her parents and her husband John Gerus, who died July 28, 2006, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Andrew and Philip Ambroziak.
She is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Christine Jacobs, Erie, PA, Mrs. Kathy Davis, Corry, PA, Mrs. Jim ( Linda ) Langley, Friendswood, Texas, and Miss Loretta Gerus, Stamford, Conn. She is also survived by two sons: Timothy and his wife Darlene Gerus, Tidioute, PA and Mathew and his wife Anna Gerus, Houston, Texas. Also 11 grandchildren and 4 greatgrandchildren.
Friends will be received at the James M. Higgins Funeral Home, 3 Elm Street, Tidioute, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and are invited to attend a funeral service to be held at 11:00 Thursday morning, February 20, in the Tidioute First United Methodist Church. Rev. Ralph Culp, pastor, Grand Valley United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Interment will follow in Saint Jacqueline Cemetery, Morrison Hill Road, Deerfield Township, Tidioute, PA.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Tidioute Community Charter School Music Department.
