Youngsville High School is hosting 160 band students and 38 band directors from 38 schools across northwestern Pennsylvania for District Band.
In addition to playing a public concert at 7:30 p.m. today at YHS, the students audition for a seat at Regional Band which will be held in Leechburg on March 13-15.
Youngsville High School Band Director Cindy Scheid said this is the second time Youngsville has hosted the event while she has been band director. The first time was in 2000.

An impressive array of 160 District Band students in grades ten through 12 will perform a public concert Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Youngsville High School Auditorium. Tickets are $4 for adults and $3 for students. Including the introductions at the beginning, the concert should last about one hour and 15 minutes. Cindy Scheid, YHS band director, rehearses with the band on Thursday. Harris Lanzel will be the guest conductor Friday evening.
She said the student musicians are excited, and emotions are running high in expectation of the auditions. For each section brass, strings, woodwinds and percussion one half of the students will be selected to continue.
She noted that guest conductors are always selected for District Band, and this year it is Harris Lanzel, who served as band director at Eisenhower High School for 31 years.
"I've been like a kid, it's so exciting. He was my band director in school. He taught a love of music, but Harris always taught that it was more than making music, learning life skills and how to respect," she said.
Scheid said that the band directors will act as judges for the auditions, as well as chaperones.
Within the Warren County School District, musicians are representing Sheffield, Eisenhower, Warren and Youngsville high schools. The 38 schools are from Intermediate Unit Five, which encompasses Crawford, Erie, and Warren counties; and IU Nine, which is composed of Cameron, Elk, McKean, and Potter counties.
