On Monday, Dec. 9, Sheffield Area Middle High School held its holiday music concert. Performances were given by the Concert Band, the Middle Level Choir, the High School Choir, and in a combined group with both choirs. Students performed under the direction of Sarah Korchak.

The menu for the week will be: Monday- Ham balls, sweet potatoes, veg. and apple pie. Thursday is our birthday luncheon with roasted seasoned chicken, potatoes and veg. with birthday cake and ice cream for dessert. Friday's Luncheon Buffet will feature BBQ ham sandwiches with fruit for dessert among many other dishes..

We have sent out over 50 Christmas cards to 'Holiday mail for Heroes' to the troops overseas, our shut-ins and to all shops who have helped support us this past year.
For our birthday luncheon on Thursday we planned to have the pre-school children but sorry to say they had to cancel, so we can have a sing-along of Christmas tunes.
We have 'adopted' a family for Christmas and all their gifts will be shown on Thursday before being wrapped. Come and enjoy the festivities at the Center, there is always something going on.

The Sheffield Area Ecumenical Food Pantry along with Second Harvest Food Bank and the Warren County School District are working together to feed school children on the weekends. The pilot program has began at the Allegheny Valley Elementary School and is currently serving 36 children receiving food for the weekends.
The cost for a year for these children is $5,400 and the program has received $3,545 toward a goal of $7,500. Eligible students who sign up will receive eight items of food to take home on Fridays for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday and Sunday. The cost is $150 per child per year.
The Sheffield Area Food Pantry has gone out on faith to sponsor 50 children for one year for $7,500. The goal is to make this program available to all eligible children who sign up, possibly 120 children for $18,000. Over 60 percent of the students at Allegheny Valley Elementary School are eligible for reduced or free lunches and this backpack program.

The Sheffield Area Ecumenical Food Pantry believes through this area's generosity that this program can be added to the existing food program. The churches that make up the Ecumenical Food Pantry are Bethany Lutheran, Grace Bible, St. Michael's Byzantine, St. Anthony's Roman Catholic, Cherry Grove Community, Sheffield, Barnes, Tiona, and Clarendon United Methodist churches and Victory Baptist Church of Clarendon.

Come and meet Santa and Mrs.Claus on Dec. 22 at the Clarendon Volunteer Fire Department from 2 to 3 p.m. Children from the Clarendon area are invited.
at Cherry Grove
Cherry Grove Community Church is having a special addition to its Christmas Eve Service this year. A live Nativity outside in the pavilion next to the church is planned. The nativity scene will be on display beginning at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve. During this time there will also be refreshments inside the church.
Then at 8 p.m. we will be having our Candlelight Service with special music performed by our kids. Come and see Joseph, Mary, the shepherds, angels and wise men as well as some cute critters as we do our best to re-create for you that night in which our Savior was born. All are welcome and we hope to see you there.

AVES faculty and staff thank all the families who sent in items for the troops as well as the Sheffield VFW Post for paying for the shipping of the packages and Clarendon VFW Ladies Auxilary for the donation of extra food and snacks.

New Year's Eve Stache Bash is being held at the Sheffield Lion's Den. Ring in 2014 from 6:30-??. Shake the winter blues and come out and enjoy a buffet style dinner at 7 p.m. with BBQ chicken, Beef on Wick and many summer picnic sides. It's BYOB with a champagne (which is being provided) toast at midnight. The cost is $15/single or $25/couple. During the recent meeting of the Sheffield Township Supervisors on Monday, Dec. 2, Supervisor Bulicz asked if the agreement was sent to Howe Township for the fire service. The Treasurer informed him that it was and they have requested an annual report from the Fire Department, which is what they usually ask for before signing and payment is made. Bulicz stated to check with Bill Dilley, fire chief, to make sure that this gets done.
The supervisors requested the secretary send a memo to the Chief of Police justifying his job by turning in his monthly police reports and the fact that they have not received a police report since August.
Township Engineer Al Vanderpoel's retirement party was Tuesday, Dec. 10 at the Pennhills Golf Club in Bradford. Supervisor Labesky and Supervisor McMillen represented Sheffield Township.
The Warren County School District forwards a bill to us for the new transformer at the Sports Complex from Penelec for $536.17. This bill has been paid to the WCSD per their request out of the Sports Complex fund.
Supervisor McMillen asked where things stand with the property on Chapel Lane belonging to Marzaks. The secretary stated that she will check with the Authority as to whether or not they have connected to the sewage and go from there.
Supervisor Labesky stated that a memorial needs to be sent to the Library in memory of Bert Lyle for all his years he served as a tree commission member. With a motion by Supervisor Bulicz, seconded by Supervisor Labesky and duly carried a donation will be given to the library for them to purchase a book in Bert's memory.
The Secretary was asked to contact the Authority in regards to the condition of Oak Street where they cut the road. They are to fill this area in.
Preconstruction meeting was held on Dec. 4 at Township Office concerning the construction of the Henry's Mills Bridge. In attendance were PennDOT officials, contractor L.C. Whitford, Company, E & M Engineers Sheffield Township. The tentative starting date of the project is Jan. 6, 2014 and the completion date is Oct. 1. The next meeting of the supervisors is Monday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Sheffield Hospitality Center.
