Warren will host the 2014 Pennsylvania State Sheriff's Summer Conference, the largest event held each year by the Pennsylvania Sheriff's Association.
The conference will be hosted by Warren County Sheriff Ken Klakamp, Forest County Sheriff Bob Wolfgang, Venango County Sheriff Eric Foy and Crawford County Sheriff Nick Hoke from Wednesday, July 23 to Saturday, July 26 at the Holiday Inn in Warren.
This is the first time the summer conference will be held in northwestern Pennsylvania outside of Erie County, according to a press release.
The conference will bring in representatives from some of the 67 sheriff's offices across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Family, members, guests, vendors and speakers will attend the three-day conference.
Throughout the week, sheriffs will attend business meetings and trainings. On Friday, July 25, Dr. Bobby Smith will be the keynote speaker.
Dr. Smith is a former Louisiana State Police Trooper who was shot in the line of duty during a traffic stop and is now blind. After the incident, he went on to earn a Ph D. and is now involved in counseling services for law enforcement agencies.
He will discuss with attendees how administrators and law enforcement officers can deal with tragic accidents that occur in the line of duty.
Warren County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 83 is co-sponsoring Smith's discussion.
