Artistic stacker

November 15, 2013
The Times Observer

Some people stack for speed, others for aesthetic content. Second-grader Michael Smith went for the balance of color and form with his cup stacks. Personnel at Allegheny Valley Elementary School documented their stackers and time, as a 30-minute session for each participant was required to qualify as a part of Thursday's Guinness World Record One-half Million People Sport Stacking at Multiple Locations in One Day.Each participant both adult and student was registered for a 6 p.m. drawing for a set of official stacker cups. From an educational standpoint, physical education teacher Holly Burt said that research shows that crossing the body's midline with hands while stacking activates both hemispheres of the brain improving focus, concentration and bi-lateral coordination.
