The PIAA Sportsmanship Pledge, that is read to coaches and captains before every varsity contest, includes the statement: "Actions meant to demean opposing players, teams, spectators or officials are not in the highest ideals of interscholastic education and will not be tolerated. Let today's contest reflect mutual respect." While officials do have to monitor demeaning actions, they less often see acts of mutual respect played out during the contest.
