Russell Arthur Hill, 79, of Greensburg, Pa. passed away unexpectedly at his home Thursday, October, 24, 2013.
He was born in Jeannette, Pa., January 16, 1934.
After graduating from Jeannette High School, Russell joined the US Army where he served four years. After serving his country, he attended West Virginia University where he attained a Bachelors of Science Degree in Wildlife Biology.
During his career, Russell worked on the Bridger National Forest, McClintic Wildlife Management Area, and the Allegheny National Forest until he retired in 1989.
He had a real passion for hunting, fishing, and the Pittsburgh Steelers; Pittsburgh Pirates. Many of his years were spent taking his grandchildren fishing for opening day of trout season. A few of his closest friends were four legged companions that spent many of their days chasing pheasants and grouse around Lander and Pittsfield. None was closer than his first male English setter named Lucky. They spent many years together hunting birds in Pennsylvania. Porter Gearhart and Mike Dexter were also two faithful hunting friends that logged many hours in search of deer, turkey, and birds throughout Northwestern Pa. Russ spent his last few years fishing at Twin Lakes with a few close family members. He will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie Mae and children, Jackie; Karen; Sherri; Russell; grandchildren, Monica; Kyle; Brandon; Joey; Richard; Jessica; Russell; Rachael.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, October 30, 11am at the MassonGelder Funeral Home; 201 North 1st Street, Jeannette, Pa. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the YBar U Saddle Club, 3881 Scandia Road, Scandia, Pa. or Hospice 1001 Route 30, Irvine, Pa. 15642.
