Main Avenue from the railroad tracks to the intersection with Pleasant Drive is scheduled for an overhaul.
Warren City Council received a letter from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation about the work, which is set to take place during the 2014 construction season.
"The anticipated improvements include the breaking and seating of the existing concrete pavement, bituminous overlay, structure overlay, removal of islands, removal of box beam barrier, new signing and drainage improvements where needed," said the letter, dated Oct. 1 and sent to City Manager Nancy Freenock.
While the ramp configuration will remain the same, the number of lanes will change.
"We are currently planning on reducing the four-lane section to a two-lane section with left turn lanes where needed," the letter states.
The project is scheduled to be "let," meaning that bids will be awarded, on March 27, 2014.
"Traffic will be maintained using only lane in each direction or by using a lane closure controlled by flaggers during actual work hours," according to the letter.
