For the second straight week, Youngsville lost to a winless team, 37-6 to visiting Seneca in a non-region game at Youngsville High School.
"I wish we could get these young guys a win, so they know what it feels like," said Youngsville coach John Victor. "It's a young team. This was the youngest team we've started."
The lone Eagles' touchdown came on Youngsville's next-to-last possession of the game. A solid running drive for Youngsville quarterback Jake Lauffenburger pushed the ball down the field. With 17.1 seconds left in the game, Lauffenburger ran 10 yards into the end zone to put the Eagles on the board.
In an echo of Youngsville's drive of the game last week in Union City, Sam Bubbenmoyer punted the ball away on fourth down from Youngsville's 30-yard line during the second quarter. This time, instead of an opposing penalty giving Youngsville the advantage, Bubbenmoyer's 35-yard punt was fumbled by Seneca and the Eagles recovered the ball on Seneca's 35. The Eagles were unable to make anything happen before the Bobcats regained possession of the ball.
Seneca ruled the rest of the game.
Steve Stroup made sure the Bobcats wasted no time to start the second half with an 84-yard kickoff return to put Seneca up 23-0. Adam Fish dominated the running game with 175 yards on 24 carries and the final Seneca touchdown of the night.
On Youngsville's end, penalties tripped up the young Eagles once again. Youngsville racked up eight penalties for 50 yards, one of which prevented an Eagles touchdown in the second quarter. Youngsville was called for a false start on third down, two yards from the goal line. The Eagles went for the touchdown, but Lauffenburger was sacked and Seneca forced a turnover on downs.
"The mental game killed us again this week," said Victor. "Stupid penalties and mental lapses killed us."
Youngsville hits the road in search of their first win Friday in Cochranton.
