NORTH EAST - Warren's Megan Smoulder finished fourth overall at Tuesday's North East Invitational at Green Meadows.
"It was good to see Meg really bring it today, placing very well among the best golfers in our district and beyond," said Warren coach Tom Smoulder. "Plus, it was nice to have one of our Dragons be a part of an award ceremony at the conclusion of one of theses big Invitationals."
Smoulder was the lone Dragon that took part at the invitational, golfing as an independent among a field of 44. She finished first among girls from Region 2 with an 18-hole 85.
North East's Megan Moylan blazed to top medalist with a 72 at her home course, and Villa Maria's Abby Fessler and Meadville's Lacey Latta each shot an 83.
Villa was the top team among eight scoring teams with a five-golfer 354, McDowell shot 374, Mercyhurst 385, and Meadville 389.
The top eight golfers from the region advance to the District 10 tournament on Oct. 8 at Riverside Golf Course, Cambridge Springs. On Oct. 1, there is a qualifying meet in which four additional golfers qualify for the D-10 meet.
Smoulder is among those who would automatically qualify from Region 2 in the season ended today. However, Warren's home Region 2 Megamatch is at 4 p.m. Thursday at Jackson Valley Country Club, so things will be more clear then.
