MEADVILLE - The game film from Friday's Region 5 match-up between Warren and Meadville may very well serve as Luke Wortman's personal highlight reel.
The Dragon senior accounted for nearly 400 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns in Warren's 33-21 win over the Bulldogs at Meadville High School.
"He's amazing," said Dragons' coach Greg Latimer. "Luke really came out of his shell tonight. We challenged our special teams to get better, and they did."
After a scoreless first quarter, Warren found itself behind when Meadville capped a 18-play drive with a Ryan Harkness rushing touchdown from three yards out.
The Dragons then strung together a drive of their own, scoring on a 18-yard pass from D.J. Fehlman to Matt Hultquist and a Ryan Shattuck extra point to tie the game at seven.
The tie held into the half, and Warren was able to take the lead on Wortman's first quick strike of the evening just 23 seconds into the third quarter.
Wortman hauled in a long pass from Fehlman, and burned the Bulldog secondary for a 70-yard touchdown. The extra point was blocked by Meadville, leaving the score 13-7 in favor of the Dragons.
Meadville plodded away for two more rushing touchdowns in the quarter, courtesy of Nathan Martin and Harkness, but both were answered immediately by Wortman with kickoff returns of 95 and 89 yards, respectively.
The senior standout had one more score in him, taking a pass from Fehlman 78 yards for his fourth touchdown. Fehlman found Tanner Stanz for the conversion, giving the Dragons a 33-21 lead.
The Warren defense held strong the rest of the way, ending three straight Bulldogs drives in turnovers. A pair of Meadville fumbles were recovered by Derek Reagle and Garrett Smead, and Wortman capped his big night with an interception in Dragon territory.
Wortman finished the game with five catches for 200 yards, two kickoffs returned for touchdowns, a punt return of 40 yards, and an interception.
Fehlman completed 9-of-14 passes - including seven straight to start the game - for 271 yards and three touchdowns. The win improves Warren to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in Region 5. The Dragons will look for win number five next week, when they travel to Oil City for a region showdown with the Oilers.
"There's still a lot of work to be done," said Latimer. "I know the desire and athleticism is there. We need to work on our execution."
