The Lady Dragons dropped a painful 5-0 decision to the Fairview on Thursday at Betts Courts in a region match.
"There were some bright spots," said Warren coach Jeff Bartsch.
In top singles, senior Cassie Johnson squared off with Amy Matczak. Long rallies saw Fairview prevail by a 7-5, 6-1 score.
"We were pleased with Cassie's willingness to fight and keep that match in play," said Bartsch.
In the most exciting match of the day, senior Corie Eckman took the opening set 7-5 over a persistent Stephanie Ace. "Corie had outstanding mobility and her drives were overwhelming in the first set and a half," said Bartsch.
The Tiger forced a tiebreak in the second set and prevailed by a tiebreak 8-6 margin to steal the set, 7-6. Tied at one set all, Eckman made a few errors and the set slipped away to Fairview by a 6-1 count.
In third singles, Warren senior Maggi Hansen played Shannon Sertz and dropped the opener 6-3. The second set was all Fairview, 6-0, as Hansen didn't handle the short balls.
"All three of these singles matches were winnable," said Bartsch. "Our girls are giving too much respect to their opponents and they are not placing themselves in position to win. We are playing from a deficit in almost every match. We need to take the lead, early and strongly, and then we can win."
In top doubles, Shoshanna Ochocki and Alexis Vavala dropped the opener to Gleason and Schwartz by a 7-5 score. The Tigers won the second set 6-2 to win the match.
"This one was very disappointing," said Bartsch. "Our girls played well in most of the first set, but then let down late in the set and let it get away. Fairview simply rode the momentum and finished off the match without much of a fight from Warren."
Second doubles did not fare well, losing 12 straight games. Kim Parroccini and Karly Taylor dropped the decision to Kocjancic and Banister.
"In both of these matches, there were some good points played by the Dragons, but not enough consistency to weather the storm," said assistant coach John Parroccini.
On the exhibition courts, Warren juniors Megan Waterfield and Maria Miller scored an impressive doubles win. Also winning were the pair of Sydney Ewing and freshman Morgan Lemmon. The Dragons are now 3-4 on the season (1-3 in region play).
On Saturday, the Dragons will host non-league Olean at the Betts Courts starting at 11 a.m.
"We will employ several new faces into the lineup on Saturday," said Bartsch.
