POTTSVILLE - Warren's Jeff Zaffino defended his PBA50 Strike Zone Hammer Eastern Open title this weekend, in winning his 22nd PBA Regional title.
The reigning PBA Central Region Player of the Year for 2012, Zaffino won this PBA50, formerly Senior Tour, title in the East Region. Zaffino defended his title from a year ago, this time with a much-tougher oil pattern at Strike Zone lanes in Pottsville.
Zaffino did not have the most pins over the three-day event, but after advancing to the round of 16 out of 56 bowlers, he finished head-to-head competition at 7-0.
Zaffino had his best games, a 211 and then a 203, in the round of four, and then championship match against Mahopoc, N.Y.'s John Conroy.
"I picked up spares," said Zaffino. "(With the tougher conditions on the lanes), it was one of those deals where, hopefully, you don't leave something you can't pick up."
It is the second regional title (pba.com) in 2013 for Zaffino, who earned $1,500 with the victory.
