ERIE-The Warren girls golf team earned a third-place finish in their first Region 2 megamatch of the season Thursday at the Erie Golf Course.
McDowell placed first on its home course with a team score of 178, Meadville was second at 194, Warren shot 226, and Strong Vincent finished with 263.
"It was a tough match but I was satisfied with the girls' efforts," said Warren coach Tom Smoulder. "Meggie (Megan Smoulder) stayed in the low forties, plus Clancy (Fyock) and Libby (Hammond) had some really good holes. Our two new varsity golfers fought hard and got the experience of playing in their first mega. These girls got game and I expect we will see it in the up and coming events."
Megan Smoulder led the way for the Lady Dragons with a 44 on the day, while Fyock and Hammond finished one stroke apart at 56 and 57, respectively. Ashlee McClure shot a 69 and Meghan Loutzenhiser a 75 in their first meet at the high school level.
McDowell's Ellen Eighmy and Meadville's Lacey Latta tied for the low score of 42.
The Lady Dragons will return to Erie for their next match on Tuesday when Strong Vincent plays host in the next Region 2 event.
