All the world's a stage... except the parts on the Eisenhower Middle High School grounds.
With renovations and expansion work ongoing to convert Eisenhower into a K-12 facility, the Warren County School District has had to look elsewhere for locations to hold student performances.
As a result, school band, chorus and play performances were held at the Struthers Library Theatre in downtown Warren last school year. It was an arrangement that required the district to pay for facilities use.
This year, Warren State Hospital agreed to allow some performances on its grounds. An agreement with the state hospital for usage of the chapel for choral concerts during the 2013-14 school year was approved by the school district's board of directors at its Aug. 12 meeting.
However, the agreement doesn't provide an alternative location to accommodate students with a thespian streak.
As a result, the board's Curriculum, Instruction and Technology Committee reviewed a contract for the coming school year which would allow usage of the Library Theatre once again.
The total rental cost of the agreement comes to $1,890; of that, $400 is due upon contract execution as a deposit.
The costs include theatre usage from Wednesday, Nov. 13 through Saturday, Nov. 16 for one day of rehearsal and three days of performances.
Committee member Jack Werner questioned whether the state hospital would have space available, and suitable, to accommodate the play. Committee members agreed that, while the chapel would be sufficient to provide space for a concert event, the location is unsuitable for a play.
The committee forwarded the proposed agreement between the theatre and the school district to the full board for evaluation and possible passage.
