The Cornerstone Kinzua Crush 16U travel fastpitch softball team placed first at The Greater Buffalo NSA World Series Qualifier this past weekend in Hamburg, N.Y. The Crush finished 6-1, claiming the top spot in the 22-team field. By defeating the Western New York Dazzlers via the mercy rule in the championship game, the Crush have qualified to play in the 2014 NSA World Series. The team’s title game win was its 12th game in four days after also playing in the Aunt Rosie’s 18U college showcase on Thursday and Friday in Amherst, N.Y. Youngsville at Region 8
Youngsville Post 658 advanced to this weekend’s Region 8 American Legion Baseball League Tournament as the county’s No. 2 seed. The Region 8 event begins Saturday at Northwestern High School in Albion. Carly Kirkpatrick was 5-for-5 and Missy Snider, Corrie Bednez and Cassie Mason added four hits each, lifting Park Avenue Motor Car to a 20-15 victory over Fairmont Tavern in late Valley Girls Slow Pitch Softball League play, Monday, at Betts Park. Park Ave. split two games on the night.
Fairmont made a spirited attempt at a comeback, scoring seven seventh-inning runs before Park Avenue recorded the final out. Tawny Crocker was 5-for-6 in defeat and teammate Chelsea Fitch added a 4-for-5 performance for Fairmont.
In other action, Results Rehab scored a pair of victories, defeating Seneca Home Health, 14-3, and Double D's, 23-12. In the win over Seneca, Rachel Tellinghuisen and Jenny Neal were each 4-for-4 in the team's 25-hit attack. Alexis Bevevino homered for the winners.
Against Double D's, Cheryl Leonard and Camy Ion were each perfect at the dish with five hits and four hits, respectively. Sadie Billingslea was a double shy of the cycle, hitting a homer, two triples and a single for the victors.

The 2013 Firecracker Challenge 5 and 10K running races were held Thursday, July 4, in Warren. Tim King was the overall male 5K winner with a time of 21:39 while Andy Rose was the male 10K winner with a time of 39:58. Pam Cernjul led the women's 5K race with a time of 21:58 and Lori Hahn finished first in the women's 10K event, finishing in 50:49.
