Starting off right
Post 135’s Austin Schwanke connects on a lead off single in the first inning of Tuesday’s game against Corry Northwest Savings Bank. Post defeated Corry by a score of 8-5 to improve to 3-0 on the year.
Corry struck first in the game's opening frame when catcher Dylan Silvis crossed the plate, and pitcher Will Gerould helped his own cause with an RBI single to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
That lead would be short-lived, as the Post bats answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. After a leadoff single by Austin Schwanke, Tanner Stanz connected on an RBI double and advanced to third on an overthrow. A slow roller off the bat of Matt Jaskolka was enough to tie things up. Stanz would come around to score on another RBI double, this time from Hank Morrison, to take a 3-2 lead after one.
A pair of RBI singles from Silvis and Brody Wood tipped the scales back in Corry's favor, but Post 135 knotted things up at four when Mike Munroe was brought home on a catcher's balk during an attempted intentional walk of Morrison.
Post added two more runs in the third on an RBI double from Munroe and a sacrifice fly from Stanz to make it a 6-4 advantage, and plated another in the fifth when Monroe scored on a wild pitch after leading off the inning with a double.
Corry was able to put up one run in their half of the sixth, but Monroe singled home Ryan Gustafson in the bottom of the inning to strengthen his team's lead late in the game.
Jaskolka was impressive on the mound for Post 135, earning his second win of the summer after working five innings and striking out 11 Corry batters. Morrison closed out the sixth and seventh innings to record his first save of the year.
Post 135 will return to action on Thursday, traveling to Youngsville for a rematch with Post 658. Post 135 defeated Youngsville in walk-off fashion in the first meeting between the two teams on May 31st.
