Seniors age 55 and older are invited to participate in the picnic and games that are planned for Wednesday, June 19, at the DeFrees Pavilion (next to the tennis courts), at Betts Park. This event is a fun-filled day of games, food and entertainment for people to come out and enjoy the each other's company and be engaged in healthy activities.
Competitions will be held as usual in - & 1-mile walks, softball toss, corn-hole bean bag toss, Frisbee toss, putting (golf), table shuffleboard, goofy golf, jarts, croquet, and ring toss. Participants compete in three different age categories for both men and women: 55-67, 68-77, and 78 & over and will choose three events in which to be scored. Participants may play all of the games for fun, but will only be eligible for ribbons in the three events of their choice. Ribbons are provided for the overall male/female winners as well as the first three finishers in each age group for all events. Everyone will receive a ribbon just for their participation, even if they didn't place in the top three in an event.
The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) organizes the Senior Games with committee representatives from Experience, Inc., Congressman Thompson's staff, the Eldercare Council, as well as area senior centers.
The registration fee is $2 for event participants and for spectators who wish to just have lunch and enjoy watching the events. Lunch will include hamburgers or hot dogs, potato salad, fruit with dip, beverages and dessert.
The Senior Games are always a good time for people all ages, from the oldest participant in their 90's to those in their 50's! They are all about great food, fun games and socializing with friends.
