It's almost time for the reaping for the inaugural Hunger Games in Sugar Grove.
Entries for the event must be received by Thursday, May 16.
Prizes for the June 1 games-of-skill event are in place.
The top individual scorer will receive a $300 gift card. Second receives a $200 card and $100 goes to third.
Every member of the winning district (team) will receive a Kindle, according to Mary Passinger, event chair. There will also be door prizes throughout the day.
The first 144 entrants will be accepted. Groups may sign up as a team, but individuals who can't round up 11 fellow competitors may sign up and be placed with a group. Each district will include 12 members.
The entry fee is $25 per person.
"We need more teams," Passinger said. "We've heard about lots of people planning teams but we want people to know that it is the first 144 people that sign up, so don't wait to sign up your group."
"Participants must be at least 12 years of age, although there will be activities for 12 and younger, including using the inflatables when they are not being used for competition," Passinger said.
In the evening, Sugar Grove Borough will present a showing of Hunger Games on an outdoor screen.
"Things are falling into place but we are still looking for donations for door prizes, food donations, and vendors of all sorts as well as participants," Passinger said.
The funds raised from the event benefit Sugar Grove Free Library. Organizers are also hoping for non-perishable food donations to benefit local food banks. "We are hoping to have a large donation to make to the food bank," Passinger said.
Spectators are asked to make a canned good or monetary donation. Youngsters interested in using the inflatables and some of the other Hunger Games facilities while they are not in use by the competitors may purchase all-day passes.
