You can't play much better than this.
The Warren boys tennis team improved to 11-0 on the season, defeating Rocky Grove 5-0 Monday at Betts Park in Warren.
The 5-0 final isn't particularly noteworthy. How they recorded that 5-0 victory is.
The Dragons won all five of the scored matches Monday in straight sets, winning 6-0, 6-0. Rocky Grove failed to win even one game against Region 2 champion Warren.
Per usual, Shane Burns, Matt Sandberg and Nathan Sandberg controlled the singles matches, sweeping their way to three victories.
"Our singles players are playing efficiently with purpose," said Warren coach Jeff Bartsch.
The doubles pairs of Grayson Foley and Nick Tarpenning and Liam Boger and Ylli Bakalli had perfect appearances as well to complete the Warren sweep.
In the most exciting match of the day, freshman Noah Colvin and junior partner Neil Morrison took on the exhibition doubles pair of Trevor Irwin and Henry Gent.
"This was an exciting match as the Warren pair outplayed and defeated the number one and number two Rocky Grove players by an 8-6 score," said Bartsch. "Our guys maintained their composure and won some key points at 7-6 to win that final game. It's great to see young players attain a new level of play."
In exhibition play, Connor Clendenen recorded an 8-0 singles win for the Dragons. Also winning for the Dragons were the doubles pairs of Phil Hachula and Bryce Bauer, 8-1, Tristan Boger and Sean McGuinness, 8-0, Dylan Hansen and Nathan Schultz, 8-0, Eric Cecco and Mark Cecco, 8-0, Max Pierson and Alex Bailey, 8-0, Nick Pellegrino and Bob McAvoy, 8-0, Steffan Blair and Darren Liu, Hunter Mohney and Teddy Leos and Aaron Buck and Derek Hanlin.
"This was an excellent opportunity to get match play for younger players," said Bartsch.
Warren will host Sharon on Tuesday in their final home appearance of the 2013 campaign. On Wednesday, the Dragons will travel to the Buhl Park in Sharon to participate in the Tri-County Tennis Championships.
