LAKEWOOD, N.Y. - The wins just keep on coming.
Warren's boys tennis team improved to 9-0 on the season with a convincing 5-0 victory over Southwestern (NY) Thursday in Lakewood, N.Y.
Warren's top singles player Shane Burns had to work a little harder for his victory today, facing off with Southwestern's Matt Johnson. Still, Burns emerged with a 6-1, 6-4 straight sets victory.
"This was a good match between two of the premiere players in the area," said Warren coach Jeff Bartsch.
In another matchup of premiere players in the area, Warren's Matt Sandberg defeated the Trojans' Quinn White 6-4, 6-0. Nathan Sandberg completed the singles sweep with a tidy 6-0, 6-0 victory over Alex Bower.
"Todays' playing conditions were cool with a lot of wind," said Bartsch. "Southwestern is a good team. They have solid players in the top singles positions. This was an excellent opportunity for the Dragons and this was a very good win."
In doubles play, Grayson Foley and Nick Tarpenning were efficient in their 6-1, 6-0 victory and Ylli Bakalli and Liam Boger completed the team sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
In exhibition play, Bryce Bauer and Phil Hachula and Tristan Boger and Sean McGuinness earned 8-3 victories. Also winning in exhibition play were the doubles team of Noah Colvin and Neil Morrison and Conner Clendenen in singles play.
Warren (9-0) returns to action Saturday at Titusville.
"Should the Dragons win that regional matchup, they will have locked-up the regional championship to put us into the team championships in two weeks," added Bartsch.
