Lawrence Arthur Eller, 93, of Russell, Pa., passed away on April 12, 2013 at Warren Manor.
Larry was born December 2, 1919, in Erie, Pa., the son of the late Louis Eller Sr. and Florence Carr Eller. Born and raised in Erie, Larry attended Erie Schools and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served his country from 1939 to 1959, then served another ten years in the Naval Reserves. During his career in the Navy, Larry was aboard the Destroyer USS Zane at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked on December 7, 1941. He was barely one half mile from the main focus of the attack. He then served the remainder of the war in the Pacific Theatre. Larry is a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors of Pennsylvania and the Pearl Harbor Survivors of Erie, Pa. Larry would often reminisce of the awful day when so many of his comrades lost their lives, and remembered it like it was yesterday.
Following his long and highly decorated military career, he returned to Erie and worked for UniFlo manufacturing, and then drove truck for the grape industry surrounding Erie. Larry liked to travel, hunt, and especially enjoyed keeping a nice home and landscape, and caring for his automobiles.
