The Sheffield Township Supervisors met on April 1 for their regularly scheduled meeting.
The Forestry Earnings were received in the amount of $75,226.79. The treasurer stated that $57,750 had been budgeted, so this was over budget for income for 2013. Timber receipts for Warren County were $849,807.34 with the school district receiving $461,375.19.

Mead Oil Co., Fox & Fox, Inc of Clarion and Shell Exploration & Production Co. will all be drilling in and around Sheffield Township. Chief Madigan is to contact Mr. Dahlengers on Third Mill Street with regards to his neighbors. Liquid Fuels allocation was deposited on April 1 in the amount of $56,261.27 for road repairs in the township for 2013.
May 9 is the mock accident at SAMSHS, the road crew was asked to place bleachers on the blacktop area for this. Arbor Day celebration will take place on April 26 at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park. The fifth grade classes for SES along with their teachers, Jody Baker and Heather Alexander, will be in attendance. Refreshments will be provided by the Sheffield Lions Club and Don Watts will be presenting a program.
The township will be presented with its Tree City USA certification for the 11th year. The township convention in Hershey will be April 21-24 and Supervisor John Labesky and Township Secretary Kristi Kulka will be attending.
Sheffield Area Middle Senior High will be receiving recognition as a "Pennsylvania Don Eichhorn School to Watch" on Friday, April 19 at 1:30 p.m.; all three supervisors along with the secretary will be in attendance.
The City of Warren has issued a new electrical service at D & I Silica at 203 Center St. for the month of February. Chief Madigan will be putting on a program at the schools for bicycle helmet laws and safety. The law states that any bicyclist who is 12 and under is to be wearing a helmet.
DEP has approved the Planning Module for New Land Development for the Sheffield Elementary addition project and so has Al Vanderpoel of E & M Engineers and Surveyors. The supervisors as well have approved this plan and an approval letter will be sent to Brian Almeter of Fahringer, McCarty, Grey, Inc.
The spring road inspection will take place on Saturday, April 6, at 8 a.m. and all three supervisors along with the roadmaster will be driving around the township inspecting the roads and properties. The PennDOT Municipal Representative will be contacted to come to the township to begin the bid process for necessary repairs to be done to the township roads.
Chief Madigan is requesting a traffic study be done by PennDOT for Route 6 in front of the Dollar General Store. Several accidents have occurred in this vicinity and it hoped that the speed will be reduced.
Annual Cash Bash
Sheffield Sports Boosters will be having its annual Cash Bash at the Saint Paul Center in Sheffield on Saturday, April 13 from 7 to 10 p.m., doors open at 6:30. Door prizes and pull tickets as well as spins for cash every 10 minutes.
Jeff Leichtenberger has donated a log, bar- high table complete with two bar stools to be raffled off during this cash bash. Tickets are available from any booster at a cost of $5 each or 3 for $10 or stop at the Main Street Artisans Co-op at 29 South Main St., where the table is on display in the front window and get your tickets there as well.
The Main Street Artisans Co-op is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Co-op is always looking for more artists to be a part of their mission.
The Academic Supporters Group of SAMSHS will be holding a Basketball Game on Thursday, May 2, at 6 p.m. with the freshman and sophomore classes against their parents and then at 7:30 the teachers and staff against the senior and junior classes.
The public is welcome to attend this fundraiser and are also welcome to participate. This event is a fundraiser for the chemistry lab for four graphing calculators at a cost of $200 each. The cost for admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students and seniors. There will be a 3-point contest between games.

July 19 and 20 are the dates to remember!
Friday, July 19, from 8 to 11 p.m. all alumni are welcome at the Lion's Den. Snacks are provided and soda is available for sale. It is a BYOB occasion. We have 50/50 drawings and also have a "donation" container to defray expenses.
Saturday, July 20 is dinner at St. Paul's Center, to be served at 6:30 p.m. at a cost of $17. This dinner is for alumni who graduated at least 40 years ago. We also have 50/50 drawing and a "donation" can to help with our expenses. Reunion years for this year end with 3 and 8.

Registration is taking place now for preschool at the Sheffield United Methodist Church in Sheffield for the 2013-2014 school year. Children must be 3 years old and potty trained by Sept. 1. Preschool will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 to11:30 a.m.. For more information, contact Angel Weiser at 968-4245.
The Trinity Women of the Clarendon Trinity United Methodist Church will be sponsoring a Spring Rummage Sale on Friday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to noon at the church. Stop down and support these ladies.
The Jack V. Barner Memorial Scholarship Bowling Tournament wrapped up on Saturday, March 30 with the following winners: High Junior Female, Cheyenne Wheetley with a score of 700; High Junior Male, Jake Gorton with a score of 679; High Male, Bryan Olsen with a score of 877; and High Female, Michelle Barner with a score of 739.
Team standings were as follows: first place Team Gorton with a score of 3,632, second place Team J. Hanson with a score of 3,625, third place Team Summers with a score of 3,504, fourth place Team Madigan with a score of 3,495, and fifth place Team M. Barr with a score of 3,492.
Indoor Garage Sale
and Chinese Auction
The Indoor Garage Sale and Chinese Auction will be taking place at the St. Paul Center in Saybrook from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 20. This is a great way to clean up your house for spring or to purchase something good for your home.
All prizes for the auction are donated by parishioners and there are over 50 prizes. Lunch is available by the Knights of Columbus.

Saturday, April 27 is the Spring Auction sponsored by Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department. Doors open at noon and auction starts at 1 p.m. There will be yard ornaments, tools, snack foods, shirts and many more brand new items.
This benefits the Sheffield Fireman's Festival being held July 17-20. Come and support the fire department.
The Sheffield girls softball team will be hosting a scavenger hunt on Saturday, April 27. Pre-register by April 19. Cost is $10 per team member with teams consisting of 4, 5, or 6 people.
Starting at the Sheffield High School at 1 p.m., teams will be sent on the hunt.
Teams will be given the following: a list of pictures they need to take, a list of items they need to bring across the finish line with them, and clues and puzzle they need to solve to unlock secret locations.
Teams have a total of six hours to complete as much (or all) of the hunt as they can.
Award ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. at the Sheffield Lion's Den. Awards will be given for: Best Team Name, Best Team Time, Most Team Points.
Following the awards, there will be an after-party with snacks, beverages and music.

As we start out our "spring trips" you may sign up for our Mystery lunches where the bus will pick you up at your door and take you somewhere in Warren County for lunch on your own.
Our next day out is shopping in Erie for the day, you will again be picked up at your door, all rides are charged 25-cents fare each time you step on the bus. These trips must be signed up 24 hours in advance as well as lunches for your reservation.
