Andrew J. McComas, of 85 Willow Grove Court, Tonawanda, NY, passed away on Tuesday, April 2nd, his 83rd birthday. He was a retired Personnel Administrator in the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors Corporation.
Andy was born to Donald E. and Esther Johnstone McComas, in Warren, on April 2, 1930. He graduated from Warren High School, where he was a member of the championship basketball team in 194748 that won 27 games, including 22 in a row, which is still a school record. He received his BS in Economics in 1952 from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was also a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
As a 1st Lieutenant in the Army, he served his country in Korea and was later a member of the American Legion, Post 135.
Andy, and his wife Joan, maintained a home in Tonawanda, NY and Largo, FL, where he was a member of the Bardmoor C.C. and the Bayou Club in Largo and the Tan Tara C.C. in Pendleton, NY.
He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Edith Knabb McComas, a brother, Donald E. McComas, Jr., and a sister, Charlotte McComas Zook.
In addition to his wife, Joan Baker Harrington, he is survived by his daughter, Claire M. Mueller of Westland, MI, two sons, Andrew, Jr., Holly, MI, and Rev. Gregory C. of Franklin, MI, a stepson Robert C. Harrington, Scotch Plains, NJ, and a stepdaughter, Deborah Battel, Fairport, NY. Also, two sisters, Patricia Lundahl of Warren and Margaret Morris of Queensbury, NY, and two brothers, Murray of Warren and Jeffrey of Murray, UT. He was further proud of his fourteen grandchildren, three greatgrandchildren, and fifteen nephews and nieces.
A private burial service will be held in Oakland Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial gifts may be made to the Community Foundation of Warren County for The Warren Athletics Fund, or to a charity of choice.
