Last spring, we had a state medalist on the cover in Sheffield sprinter Kalil Slaughter, who went on to win two PIAA gold medals. This year's representatives also added some hardware. Warren's boys tennis team won a Region 2 title, the first District 10 team championship in the program's history, and Matt Sandberg, left, was part of the District 10 doubles champs (with the graduated Thomas Pellegrino), and Shane Burns, right, the D-10 singles champ. The top of that 33-member team wants more than just one PIAA win. This Spring Sports season also has the return of several defending District 10 track champions from Warren, including two-time champion runner Ellis Beardsley and Austin Jerman in the javelin, as well as the team's 4X400 team of Tanner Rosenberg, Jordan Willetts, Caleb Hultman and Luke Wortman. Warren also sent Sabrina Anderson to states for a second time in the high jump for the Lady Dragons, and Youngsville sent Rocco Gatta to states in the 400. Sheffield's Dylan Reynolds also has a little hardware in his sixth-place state relay medal. Warren's baseball team graduated nine seniors and has a new team with a new head coach, but is the defending District 10 champion. A special Spring Sports edition is published inside, with a look at Warren baseball, softball, track, tennis and trapshooting, Eisenhower and Youngsville baseball, softball, track and trap, Sheffield softball, track and trap, and Tidioute Charter trap.
