LAKEWOOD, N.Y. - The Warren boys tennis team opened the 2013 season like they spent the majority of the 2012 season.
The Dragons won four of the five scored matches Tuesday, beginning the season with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Olean (NY).
With the weather outside looking better suited for Christmas than tennis, the match was moved from Betts Park to the indoor courts of the Lakewood Family YMCA.
Despite losing their home court advantage, the Dragons were still able to dominate the majority of the action.
Defending District 10 singles champion Shane Burns opened his senior season with a 10-3 victory over Olean's Ken Volz. At second singles, Matt Sandberg defeated his opposition by the same 10-3 count. Like Burns, Sandberg is a returning D-10 champion having won the D-10 Doubles title with the graduated Thomas Pellegrino last season.
