College news

Youngsville High School graduate and California University of Pennsylvania freshman baseball team member Cory Craig earned his first career win Friday afternoon, during the Vulcans' 4-1 victory over West Liberty on Friday. With the win, the Vulcans improve to 12-2 on the season with nine straight victories.

Craig tossed a career-high 7 1/3 innings on Friday, throwing 117 pitches in his first start since Feb. 27. He allowed one earned run and scattered eight hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Craig allowed his only run in the first inning and forced the opposition to strand runners in scoring position in each of the next four innings.

Craig and the Vulcans return to action Sunday when it hosts defending GLIAC champion Grand Valley State (Michigan) in an 11 a.m. doubleheader at CONSOL Energy Park.
