Warren County is pursuing $30,000 in state grant funding that would be utilized to fund the proposed fire services internet/intranet project.
The project will create a collaborative network among the county's volunteer fire departments that will allow the community to learn what services they can provide and how the departments can benefit from community support.
The Warren County Commissioners have approved a resolution that will accompany a grant request to the Pennsylvania Municipal Services Program, governed by the state Department of Community and Economic Development.
Chairman Stephen Vanco said that the resolution asks "DCED to make a grant available in this program" and declares that the "commissioners authorize submission of (the) application."
When Commissioner John Bortz asked about the necessity of the resolution, explaining that the commissioners are not usually involved in the application process, Chief Clerk Pam Matve said that the resolution must accompany the grant application.
County Planner Dan Glotz explained on Thursday that the grant program is "actually a combination of three programs prior to the Corbett administration." He said that when the Warren County Intergovernmental Co-Operative would do joint purchasing projects, this program would be utilized. The county is "submitting an application on behalf of the COG to secure the balance of funding for the project." The county must apply for the grant because the COG is not an eligible entity.
Total cost of the project is estimated at $80,000. The Municipal Assistance Program, Community Foundation of Warren County and Jefferson DeFrees Foundation have each awarded $10,000 to the project.
"We did get some partial funding back a year ago (from DCED) and DCED looked favorably on our project and suggested we come back again this year," Glotz said.
