BOYS HOOPS: Davis ends career with triple-double in Dragons victory

February 20, 2013
The Times Observer

BRADFORD - Warren's Mark Davis will always remember his last high school game.

The senior big man had a game for the ages Tuesday, collecting a triple-double with 23 points, 12 rebounds and 11 blocks during the Dragons' season-ending 67-37 victory over Bradford at Bradford Area High School.

With the Dragons (13-9) finishing fifth in Region 5, Warren was left out of the District 10 Class AAA playoff field when the brackets were released on Sunday. That meant Tuesday was the season finale for the group and coach Jeff Berdine took the opportunity to start five seniors - Austin Jerman, Matt Sandberg, Davis, Grayson Foley and Andrew Hammersley.

"It was nice to get five seniors on the floor to start their last game," said Berdine. "It was a close game early on, but as the box score shows, we really took over in the second half. We outscored them 21-2 in the third quarter and 41-14 over the final 16 minutes.

"I thought we turned up the heat defensively and did a great job limiting good looks for not just their top two scorers, but for all their offensive threats and we really hit the glass hard. Mark Davis had just a tremendous game with 10 of his 12 rebounds coming on the defensive end. He was all over the place tonight."

The District 9 Owls scored right before halftime to cut Warren's lead to 26-23 at intermission. However, the second half belonged to the Dragons who closed an up and down season on a high note.
